Ahead of this weekend's Monza Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo will be celebrating their home Grand Prix with the help of the legendary GP Tipo 159 Alfetta and the opportunity for fans to get involved at the Alfa Romeo Motorhome in Milan, as well as hosting a programme of exclusive activities at the Alfa Romeo Museum.

Activities kick off tomorrow evening, 4 September, at the exclusive Larusmiani Boutique, the oldest clothing and tailoring brand in Via Monte Napoleone, founded in 1922.  They will feature an evocative installation featuring J.M. Fangio's 1951 world championship winning Romeo GP Tipo 159 "Alfetta", while the excitement of the races of yesterday will be recalled with vintage photographs and a selection of merchandising on the subject.

The history of the GP Tipo 159 "Alfetta", that belongs to the FCA Heritage collection and is usually on display at the Alfa Romeo Museum "La Macchina del Tempo" in Arese, is an interesting one.  Alfa Romeo decided to radically overhaul the previous version of the car to race in the 1951 season. It was given the new name, GP Tipo 159. The engine was upped to deliver 425hp at 9,300rpm, with peaks of 450hp and top speeds in excess of 300km/h. Transmission and brakes were also improved. Alfa Romeo went on to win the world championship at the end of an exciting year.

Alfa Romeo activities ahead of the Monza GP

The Alfa Romeo Motorhome will be parked in Piazzale Cadorna, in Milan, from 6 to 8 September. Fans are invited to try their hand at the Formula 1 simulator and watch the performance of Daniel Bereznay, the latest addition to the Alfa Romeo Racing F1 Esports team.  The spectacular Alfa Romeo Racing Team C38 showcar will also be on display.

The museum, known as "La Macchina del Tempo" (the time machine), will welcome fans for an activity-packed weekend. Visitors to the museum will experience the excitement of the test sessions, qualifying and the race itself on the jumbo screen in the Giulia room. The race will be followed by an in-depth look at the history of Alfa Romeo in Formula 1 with Bruno Giacomelli, a driver from the 1970s. The day will end with Sky Sport F1 "Race Anatomy" broadcast live from Arese in front of an audience of "Alfisti".

Alfa Romeo owners, with red cars, are invited to take part in a Parade at the museum's track on Saturday as well as being part of a FlashAutoMob on Sunday.  To reserve a space in the parade email info@museoalfaromeo.com; or for more information visit www.museoalfaromeo.com.
